Arthur P becker has lived a diverse life privately and professionally. In an interview with IdeaMensch, he is noted to exclaim,
“In a broad context, talent is the key to success: identifying the talent, persuading talented people to your vision or business and then getting out of the way.”
Becker graduated from Bennington College in 1972, and attended the Amos Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College thereafter. He credits a summer job as a teenager of mowing lawns and some commercial properties for $1.60 an hour as being the turning point in his life toward choosing something more lucrative as a profession.
In 1986 Becker began his business career as a stockbroker with Bear Stearns and Co. Over the next few years his experiences included investment in a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii and a sports binocular venture. During this time period, Arthur Becker Married Vera Wang in 1989. They adopted two children during their 23-year marriage. Their professional and private life occurred in and around New York City throughout that time period. He also assisted in managing the fashion company bearing her name promoting it to global brand status. As the transition to a new century, decade and era loomed, Arthur Becker began investing in technology through Atlantic Investments. He purchased controlling stock in NaviSite, an Internet hosting company, around 2002, and became that company’s CEO until 2010 when he sold to Time Warner Cable for an estimated $230 million. Since then, Becker has focused his interest in biotech and real estate ventures and is currently a managing member with Madison Partners, LLC, an investment firm Between 2012 and 2015, Becker assisted with managing Zinio, described as a digital international newsstand.
Becker says he enjoys coordinating work efforts and regards himself as an effective project developer. Biotech interest to him includes current trends in cancer treatment.
A major challenge for Becker is the ongoing issue to balance passion and drive for a project with critical thinking about that project.
