Guilherme Paulus

Guilherme Paulus was the chief guest of the fifth edition of the Top Seller Event. It is one of the major events in Brazil involving professionals of the shared property sector. He presented an outstanding speech that that was a true example of efforts and determination. Paulus is a man of many hats. He is the president of GJP hotels and Resorts, partner and chairman of the CVC Board of Directors. Paulus is also a member of National Council of Tourism (NCT) and the Economic and Social Development of the Federal Government.

Guilherme Paulus began his speech by stressing out that anyone can accomplish anything as long as hard work and determination is involved. In the speech, he explained his journey to where he is currently. Initially, he wanted to be a doctor but his parent could not afford. As an alternative, he did an internship at IBM in different departments where he was involved with a lot of numbers and calculations. However, the job did not provide the challenge he needed. One day he saw and got interested with a newspaper advertisement for airfare salesman at Casa Faro. He took the job because he thought it provided more challenges and worked there for two years. While working on a ship trip, Guilherme Paulus was approached by a federal deputy who was interested in opening a tourism office in Santo Andre. The deputy convinced Guilherme Paulus to be a partner with a 33% stake. Although his parents advised against it, he accepted the offer and in 1972 the concept of CVC was initiated.

Guilherme Paulus indicates that starting was not easy that he even contemplated closing the business after a few years of operations. The market conditions were not favorable while the government introduced punitive taxes. On the brink of closing down, he got a small project to take Mercedes Benz employees on a trip to Itajai Valley in Santa Catarina. He accredits much of his success to his manager Valter Patriani who has contributed immensely even during the turbulent times. Concluded the speech by highlighting some of the innovations CVC have introduced in the market. They include introducing the concept of stores in the malls, operations of own hotels and charter ships among others.
