OSI Industries is a food production company in the United States. It is listed among the biggest companies in the industry. With a presence in 17 countries and with 65 facilities in different parts of the world, this is a company which is turning heads for all the right reasons. What is even surprising is that it has been around for the last 100 years. This is a company which depicts the evolution of the American economy for the last one century. It started small, but over time, through good management of technological developments, it developed into one of the biggest food companies in the world right now.
Chairman and CEO Sheldon Lavin lead OSI Industries. Lavin has been part of the expansion journey of this company for the last four decades. In fact, he was brought into the company for the sole reason of helping in the management of the food company as it expanded its operations outside the United States. The former banker did not disappoint. Even after the founders of the company left the business, he was right there pushing it to new frontiers.
The history of the OSI Food Industries shows that it started as a butcher shop in Chicago. It was started by a German immigrant known as Otto Kolschowsky. He was later joined by his two sons who played a significant role in the growth of the firm under the name “Otto & Sons. The breakthrough for OSI Industries came in 1955 when McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in the United States, OSI was hired to supply beef products. The partnership lasted for long and even when McDonald’s streamlined its supply chain, it picked OSI industries as one of the companies to supply them.
McDonald’s grew rapidly forcing OSI Industries to do something about its production. In 1973, they established the first food processing plant in Chicago purposely for supplying McDonald’s. McDonald’s would later go global forcing OSI Food industries once again to expand further. With the ever-changing dynamics, the two sons of Otto could not steer the company; they brought in Sheldon Lavin to assist them with global expansion. He joined as an equal partner in the organization. Later, the two sons of Otto (the founder) stepped out of the management leaving Sheldon Lavin as the only director. He has singlehandedly led the development of the company since then. The company is now on every continent and continues to supply and more people with their food products.
