In the world of politics, there are people whose power and influence reverberate through the halls of justice. Some of these influencers are well known among the voter base. One example of this is George Soros, the founder of the Open Society Foundations. George Soros has always claimed to be a left-leaning liberal since the time of his youth. As George Soros grew older, he started the Soros Fund Management which allowed him to accumulate a net worth of $25.2 billion. Recently, however, George Soros has given $18 billion of that to the Open Society Foundations.
The Open Society Foundations stands to influence liberal democracies around the globe. They help democracies gain a foothold througb economic funding and training for leaders to stay accountable to the electorate. George Soros has even used the Open Society Foundations to stop the GOP from initiating bigoted policies and helping the Democrats gain a hearing among the people.
George Soros began using the Open Society Foundations in 2004 when he swore to do everything he could to stop George W. Bush from gaining reelection. In order to make this happen, George Soros gave a record-breaking $27 million to John Kerry and the Democratic Party. However, even though he gave this much money, George W. Bush gained the presidency.
After John Kerry lost the 2004 election, George Soros began looking for a new candidate he could use to stop the Republicans. During the 2008 presidential election, he had a difficult time between choosing Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Even though Hillary Clinton was a longtime friend of his, he thought that Barack Obama had a better chance of capturing presidency. He gave $15 million to Barack Obama to help him spread a message of hope and change. Unfortunately, after Barack Obama served his first term, George Soros became disillusioned with the Senator from Illinois believing he did not push a liberal enough agenda.
In 2016, George Soros would donate heavily to the campaign of Hillary Clinton through the Open Society Foundations. He did not want a socialist such as Bernie Sanders to win and gave Hillary Clinton $25 million. When it became apparent that Donald Trump would secure the Republican nomination, George Soros gave $1.5 million to boost the coffers for Senators running in key swing states. Now that Clinton lost, Soros spends his time fighting Donald Trump’s policies of the grassroots level.
